Overview

My Acre of Africa is an exciting and unique conservation and environmental education funding initiative, led by former South African president, Nelson Mandela, as
Patron Emeritus.

Nelson Mandela is inviting individuals and organisations all around the world to join him in support of this globally important project, which aims to protect and enlarge Southern Africa’s irreplaceable natural heritage for future generations.

This is an obligation that rests upon each one of us – for Africa is merely the custodian of this remarkable wild life legacy, which belongs to the whole world.

As competing social demands on Southern African governments continue to result in drastic cuts in funding for conservation, time is running out to protect Southern Africa’s precious wild life and wild lands. We need to act immediately to ensure the survival of this irreplaceable wild life treasury.

Developed in association with South African National Parks, My Acre of Africa
is raising a significant (US$200 million) self-perpetuating Endowment Fund that, through interest earned on the capital base, will provide ongoing finance for vital Southern African conservation projects.

Simultaneously, the initiative will provide top quality environmental education facilities, and intensive learning programmes, to educate tens of thousands of schoolchildren – for we cannot expect our children to care about our world’s natural environment if we do not teach them its value, and involve each one of them in preserving this endangered heritage.

Sponsor an Acre of Africa by Buying a Brick

To create the Endowment Fund, My Acre of Africa is calling on people all around the world to Sponsor an Acre of Africa through Buying a Brick:

  • Each brick represents one acre of the Kruger National Park, symbolising Southern Africa’s wild areas.

  • Kruger measures 4 692 914 acres, so nearly five million bricks are available for sponsorship.

  • The bricks bear personal inscriptions chosen by each individual donor.

  • The inscribed bricks are being laid in My Acre of Africa’s unique Environmental Education Facility that is to be created in the Kruger National Park - in pathways that represent the Kruger Park’s borders, rivers, roads, camps and entrance gates.

  • In this way, every donor’s name is recorded for posterity in Kruger - one of the world’s greatest wild life reserves.

Each sponsor also receives a personal, Commemorative Certificate from Dr. Nelson Mandela, Patron Emeritus of My Acre of Africa.

My Acre of Africa has the potential to be one of the world’s greatest initiatives for achieving sustainable financing for Southern Africa’s superb biodiversity.

Once this unique natural treasury is gone, it will be lost forever … and our children will be immeasurably poorer.
