Bon
Cap lies on the banks of the Breede River in the picturesque valley of
Eilandia outside the Robertson Wine Valley.
The
river is the vein of our wines. The area is well known for its very low
rainfall of only 150mm per annum. Here you’ll find Red Karoo (Terra Rossa)
and sandy soils, rich in lime – ideal for growing quality vines.
The
noble red varieties grown at Bon Cap are: Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot,
Pinotage, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Touriga Nationale and Viognier. Because
of our farming methods and the scientific use of cover crops to replenish
soil, the soil here is rich in compost, ensuring the premium quality of our
wines and the beautiful rose gardens at the Manor. Our distinctive vineyards
prove that Bon Cap indeed deserves its name – Good Cape.
Sustainable farming is a worldwide concern among people who care about the
health of their families and the environment. One solution to the problem is
organic farming. Organic crops are grown in harmony with nature and strict
international regulations prohibit the use of any chemical products such as
pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, weed killers, etc.
Accommodation
Rudolph and Tina were first to introduce the guestfarm concept in the
Robertson Wine Valley when they started Weltevrede Guestfarm in 1991. There
was only one cottage, with oil lamps and a gas cooker. Lately the farm
boasts 7 cottages, a conference and wedding facility, a bistro and coffee
shop and a privately owned winery.
To
accommodate our guests during our hot and dry Karoo summers we have a
swimming pool, a lapa (Boma) and for the more adventurous, there is the
Breede River, which forms one boundary of our farm. The guest cottages at
Weltevrede (the original homestead on this seventh generation family farm)
are built on the edge of one of the dams on the farm.
The
river and dam are popular for fishing and birdwatching. For the city
dweller, Weltevrede is a haven of peace and tranquillity. Although our
cottages are self-catering, with exception of the two en suite private rooms
(Shiraz and Cabernet), all guests and day visitors can eat at our bistro.
The lapa (boma) near the swimming pool has all the necessary braai
facilities, a fridge/freezer, a microwave and much more.
Weddings
The intimate rustic chapel on the premises can seat 64 people. For larger
weddings we have a luscious garden or, alternatively, the reception hall can
accommodate up to 150 people seated for the ceremony and reception.
All tables, chairs, cutlery, crockery etc. are provided and we do the
catering ourselves. Bar facilities are available at the bistro. Please
contact us for further information or a free quotation.
The more than 2000 roses in our gardens at the manor house provide a
breathtaking backdrop for wedding photographs.
Conference
The newly built conference facility opened its doors in September 2004 and
can host small events as well as large conferences for up to 150 people
seated. Meals can be provided on request. Contact us for a free quotation.
