Nestled at the foot of the Paarl
Mountains, Fairview is a third generation family owned estate, bought by
Lithuanian immigrant Charles Back in 1937. His grandson, Charles, is one of
the most inventive and highly regarded wine personalities in South Africa, and has
elevated the reputation and standards of the estate, gaining national and
international acclaim in the process.
Fairview has been producing
fine wines under its own label since 1974, and is also the home of Spice
Route wines, Agostinelli, and the quirky Goats do Roam range. Always
innovative, Charles Back and his team continue to produce top wines, while
maintaining the high standards that they have become renowned for. Winemaker
Anthony de Jager has the enviable task of selecting from the finest fruit in
the area, to produce a wide range of wines and styles.
A visit to the Paarl estate
offers one a sensory experience, and welcomes guests to the Fairview family.
Only 40 minutes from Cape Town, Fairview estate is a perfect way to spend a
stunning Cape summers day.
Tasting Room and Wine sales:
One of the most popular
tasting rooms in the winelands, Fairview offers over fifty wines, as well as
a selection of cheeses for tasting, seven days a week. Knowledgeable,
energetic and friendly staff will guide you through the Fairview taste
experience. While often bustling, the Fairview tasting room maintains a
relaxed, comfortable environment. We do all we can to encourage guests to
visit the farm, and gain understanding of the Fairview brand and culture,
and the tasting room is a cornerstone of this philosophy.
Goatshed farm eatery
The Goatshed at Fairview
opened in late 2004, and offers visitors to the farm an unsurpassed
experience of the Fairview culture, products and atmosphere. The fusion of
top wines, gourmet cheeses, a wide range of freshly baked breads, cold
meats, olive oil and fine country fare, plays out in an eclectic, relaxed
and unpretentious environment. With views of the famous goat tower, and
mountain vistas, the eatery is set in the farms original wine cellar. Light
meals and cheese platters can be enjoyed either indoors or on the sunny
terrace area. Booking is strongly advised.
The Fairview Vineyard Cheesery:
The cheesery has grown
immensely over the last ten years, and Fairview is the South African market
leader in the speciality cheese sector. Top goats milk from the resident
herd of 450 Saanen goats, as well as the finest Jersey milk is transformed
into a mouth-watering array of cheeses. Numerous local and international
wards bear testament to the quality and high standards demanded by
cheesemaker Louis Lourens and his team. While the factory is not open to the
public, visit the tasting room and cheese shop for a taste of the latest
offerings, and interesting cheeses not yet available in the retailers.
Tractor rides to neighbouring
Seidelberg Estate and back are also available over weekends and on public
holidays. Enquire at the tasting room.
