Bastian van Stenis
"Ever since I was young I wanted to be an Artist. I am a self-taught artist
and while growing up I worked with other artists who were friends of the
family. After school I continued to paint in my own time and got a job at a
mosaic company. A year later I left and started painting more often.
Mariette van den Heever
Mariette was born 1969, in Springs Gauteng. She works in a wide variety of
mixed media, always observing and picking up interesting shapes, textures
colours etc. Her passion is earth rocks, sand bushman paintings, fossils,
bones, animals, insects, plants etc. All of these being an expression of how
she perceives life around her.
During her training as a clothing designer she acquired knowledge of figure
drawing, colour and textures.
Mollie Townshend
Mollie Townsend was born in 1921 in Smithfield, South Africa, and has lived
in Zambie and Botswana. She now lives in Cape Town. Amongst her numerous
commissions were designs of two postage stamps for Botswana.
She studied at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, Paris and Michaelis
School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town, graduating with B.A. (fine art)
in 1975.
Stuart Shapiro
"My art is an expression of myself, it has grown as I have, and also changed
as I have. My art explores all mediums, it is my outlet. My composition and
brush are representations of my emotional state. I want the viewer to be
visually appealed by my art as well as invigorated by whatever emotion I
feel. And while involved in a painting the outside world disappears. I lock
myself away for hours. My world becomes my canvas."
Natasha Mulundi
Natasha started painting commercially in 1996 after completing a three year
Art Teacher Diploma Course.
Her inspiration to paint comes from her connection with nature and its
awesome diversity. The divine inspiration which conjures up the various
human emotions is what ignites her creativity.
Lorraine Miller
"My art has grown from representational to abstract. My inspiration for
abstract art comes from many sources: nature in its myriad forms, books,
colour combinations, structure, dreams, virtually anything.
Then the dance between my canvas and I begins. What finally emerges usually
surprises me because what started as an idea is now transformed, often not
as I expected.
Gary Frier
"I have made art for a substantial amount of years and have found
inspiration in many forms. Mostly art work is about constantly discovering
new ways to interpret my surroundings and personal experiences."
His work consists of mixed media and various objects which were inspired by
urban decay and renewal as well as symbols from prehistory and grafitti.
Leonie E. Brown
Leonie E. Brown calls herself a traditionalist. She believes the paint and
the canvas in itself is enough to carry out the message she is conveying.
Each painting is treated as a letter to the viewer. The artist herself
believes that each painting is uniquely created for the person who will
recognize the message as theirs.
Her work has been described as Abstract Expressionism. It is based on
automatic techniques, where the message dictates the technique. |
