What better way to capture some unforgettable memories than to experience the magic of tandem paragliding?

About TANDEM paragliding:
It is the purest form of flying. Using only the power of the wind, we can stay aloft for hours and travel great distances. Because a paraglider can fly very slowly it is easy to launch and land (see an example in our gallery on our website). The simple glider folds away and fits into a ruc-sack. To pilot a tandem paraglider requires a high level of qualification, as approved by SAHPA (South African Hang-and Paragliding Association). To fly on your own you would need to complete a licence course.

What does TANDEM flying involve?
You will be securely strapped into a comfortable flying harness positioned in front of the pilot. All you'll need to do is run briefly during the launch and landing. The harness is built for comfort and safety so you can sit back and take in the scenic splendour while your pilot flies you. A tandem flight will last 10 - 25 minutes, depending on the conditions.

Who are the AIRTEAM?
We are South Africa's most experienced tandem group, with 1000's of flying hours each, and over 50 years collective experience. Our pilots are the very best in the sport.
Where do we fly?
Paragliding is weather dependant, so we move to wherever the conditions are good. There are many flying sites to choose from. In Cape Town, we fly from Lion's Head and Signal Hill. Further a field, we fly in the famous wine-making region of Fransch-hoek and Paarl, from the picturesque seaside town of Hermanus, or from the dramatic Sir Lowry's Pass.

Can anybody fly?
Yes! as long as you are 8 years and older, and you don't weigh more than 130kgs! We are also disabled-friendly.

There are many flying sites that we use around the Western Cape.
Every site is breathtaking from the air.

Please note that although the tandem pilots are highly experienced and will only fly when they judge conditions to be safe,
there is an unavoidable element of risk associated with flying. Your medical insurance might not cover such an activity.

'Intro' Course

Ever wanted to try something out but not sure how to go about it ? Well here's your opportunity - we are offering 2/3 day fun courses. 'Intro' means starting from the basics and working upwards. Learn how the equipment works, how to handle a glider, how to steer, how to land. Your instructor will give you all the in-depth advice to get you up and flying!

Our Airteam course includes:

• 10-15 flights flights (weather permitting)

• Equipment usage throughout the 2/3 days

• Accommodation (camping / B&B where applicable)

• One braai evening + all breakfasts + light lunches

• Full instruction with registered SAHPA instructor

• Full insurance

• Return transport from Cape Town

Dates have yet to be confirmed but we work on a minimum number of 12 students. The INTRO course is great for corporate team-building weekends or just a weekend away with your friends.
A sample itinerary:

• Day 1 : afternoon drive to Wilderness.
  Settle in to accommodation.

• Day 2 : introduction to the course.
  Ground-handling and paraglider basics.
  First flights from 50-100m hill! Lot's of fun, lot's of sun. A braai in the evening.

• Day 3 : Ground-handling + instruction + theory + flights.
  Drive home in the afternoon.

* An optional extra tandem flight is available during the course (for family / friends or for yourself as an instructional flight).

Please note that this is not a full licence course and you will not be qualified to fly unsupervised by the end of the intro.

'Licence' course

Learn how to do it all on your own! For those keen to achieve their solo pilot's licence in paragliding, this course is extensive, and will provide you with very good grounding and experience. Call us to find out more details about the Basic Licence Course.

Our Airteam course includes:

• 35-50 flights under supervision

• Minimum of 4 hours flying time

• Theory (aerodynamics, meteorology, air law, flight planning and control)

• Practical assessment and coaching

• All equipment usage for the duration of the course

• Guidance from highly experienced instructors

• All transportation (pick-ups to be arranged)

• Written examination

• An internationally recognized certification

EXPERT GUIDANCE FOR TRAVELLING PILOTS.

We'd like to guide you along your journey, and ensure that you have the best time possible. We have extensive experience, so draw on our knowledge! We go off the beaten track!

The AIRTEAM has a core of four pilots, so we can accommodate big groups.

Our aim is to satisfy every customer with the most pleasurable and memorable flights possible. We are proud to be known as the most experienced and qualified group of tandem pilots in the Western Cape. We have all been certified as tandem pilots by SAHPA (South African Hang- and Paragliding Association).

For all those 'solo' pilots (ie. licensed) wishing to explore South Africa and its heartlands. The culture and heritage combine with the natural essence of the land to make your trip with us one you'll never forget! We can accommodate you anywhere in South Africa. We know the best flying sites and will share them with you - from Barberton to Cape Town, the Garden Route to the Drakensberg Mountains - we fly them all!

We are happy to have non-fliers joining our tour. Please contact us to discuss your tour structure, the sites and places of interest you would like to visit.

Our Airteam tour includes:

• The expert guiding services of our instructors

• Maps, information and history of SA

• All transportation costs on the road

• All camping and accommodation fees where applicable
  (to be arranged)

• First and last night's dinner

• You are expected to bring your own glider + your relevant pilot's licence and pilot's insurance.

• Glider hire is available but shall be charged for as an extra.

What must I bring?
Closed-in shoes, a jersey and a sun-hat. You can bring your own camera, but your pilot is equipped to take photographs of you during the flight from a truly unique angle (an optional extra). For more information please visit our website
