Our
gracious 4 star country hotel sits on the hill above the Langebaan Lagoon on the Cape West
Coast of South Africa . Originally built in 1860 as the Panorama Farm
Homestead, it was beautifully restored in 1992, recreating the original Cape
Dutch farmstead atmosphere. It retains the charm of reed ceilings, huge
fireplaces and outstanding views of the lagoon.
The climate in the region is arid and the sea breeze is cooled by the
Benguela current whose cold fertile water supports an abundance of marine
life. The area around the Lagoon (30 000 ha) was proclaimed a National Park
in 1985 and is home to one of the world's largest populations of sea birds.
In summer thousands of waders migrate here.
The
off-shore islands offer safe breeding sites for many species notably the
Cape Gannet and the rare African Oyster Catcher. At certain times of the
year pink-winged Flamingos and graceful Pelicans also visit this haven which
is an ornithologist's paradise.

Facilities
Our restaurant, the Panorama, named after the original homestead, offers
traditional Cape cuisine and a Diamond Award winning wine list, specialising
in wines of the West Coast and Swartland regions.
In winter a crackling fire spreads a warm glow over the Oregon furniture and
high ceilings. Enjoy the finest, fresh West Coast seafood – mussels or fresh
line fish, farm style chicken pie, oxtail and a variety of farm fresh
vegetables and salads.
-
When you go out to
discover the many attractions of the West Coast, let us pack you a
picnic to take along.
-
Or you can enjoy our
wine cellar which is built in the original underground water tanks of
the old farm, a perfect spot for storing our local wines at controlled
temperatures, many from new vineyards that are producing some excellent
vintages. You can have a meal served here for an intimate, unique
atmosphere.
-
Before meals a drink
can be enjoyed at the bar, which in winter crackles with a welcoming
fire. In summer sit on the patio and watch the sun go down over the
lagoon.
-
Summer days are
perfectly spent lazing around the pool watching the yachts and wind
surfers on the lagoon .
-
In summer the
excellent lagoon views from the patio make it the perfect spot for
breakfast and lunch and to watch the sun go down with a long cool drink.
