Franschhoek means French Corner and
reflects the history of this area. This land in the Berg River valley was
given to a group of French Hugenouts fleeing persecution who brought with
them the French wine producing secrets. True to the French origins, this
wine route also offers some of the best restaurants around.
Each July the area becomes more French
than France when they celebrate Bastille Day in true style.
There are a total of 21 estates on the
Franschhoek Wine Route.
