About Us
About Vrede en Lust. Vrede en Lust is a modern wine farm, building on a
315 year old foundation. Its vision is to become one of South Africa's
best loved wineries by delivering a level of customer experience that
exceeds all expectations.
The vineyard philosophy is based on respect for the environment and a
total commitment to quality. The winery is currently undergoing ISO
14000 certification. The farm has not used any insecticides on the farm
for the past 5 years and is currently busy with a project to eliminate
the application of weed killers by 2005.
The winemaking philosophy is simple - make the highest quality wines
possible, honest wines that reflect their terroir and with minimal
intervention in the cellar. The team believes that red wine blends are
capable of producing wines of greater complexity and enjoyment, and
Vrede en Lust will not produce any single cultivar red wines.
The Vrede en
Lust sales philosophy is basic too - striving to have the full range of
wines available for tasting and purchasing from one release to the next.
The management believes in the importance of wine tourism and knows that
visitors are not interested in hearing how quickly the vintage sold out,
but desire to experience the wines and have the opportunity to build a
connection to the estate. Availability is thus a cornerstone of the
strategy. It is Vrede en Lust's goal is to
get to know as many of its customers as possible and build life
long relationships with them.
The farm is located in the centre of the Cape Winelands, on the eastern
slopes of the Simonsberg, and nestled in between the top notch Rupert de
Rothschild (Fredericksburg) and Plaisir de Merle estates. The vineyards
are classified under the Wine of Origin ward Simonsberg-Paarl, as part
of the Paarl Wine Region. Vrede en Lust produces more than 80% of its
grapes on the estate and sources the balance from top quality grape
growers in the region.
